Many pet owners employ high-frequency sound training tools as a method of correcting bad habits. Not only do ultrasonic sound help call or alert a dog, but they also can be used as an irritant and a warning. Pet owners have found it helpful to spray bitter taste deterrents on objects they don’t want their pets chewing on. Similarly, there are ways to corral your dog in certain areas of the yard, or keep your cat downstairs and off couches, by simply using an ultrasonic sound systems. These are triggered to emit unpleasant noises whenever the pet transgresses a limit you have established.   Below are some devices that pet parents have found useful in training their animals.

Ultrasonic Training Devices

Collarless Remotes: When drilling your pet in an area of small proximity, these remotes will emit a high-frequency noise to help him associate good and bad behavior. Giving commands during obedience training can be accompanied by positive sounds (P), and negative sounds (N) to help the dog ascertain whether he has done something correctly or not. These remotes work in a 30-ft range area, meaning you won’t be agitating the Rottweiler across the street!

Bark Controls: These indoor devices help train dogs to cease barking. The moment the ruckus begins, the bark control unit emits an ultrasonic jarring noise that will startle your dog, causing an interruption in the cacophony of barking. Every time your dog starts howling, he will hear the painful noise, which he will begin to associate with the occurrence of his barking, making him less likely to do so indoors. The tool can be activated both automatically and manually for instances when the owner wants to use the tool for training purposes. Bark control devices work up to 50-ft away from the control unit, so the yapping Chihuahua in the apartment upstairs might abandon barking as well!

Indoor Pet Barriers:   These come in a variety of products, most of which secure an area with an off-limits barrier spanning from 2-10 ft across. These “radio fences” will activate whenever your dog or cat crosses the barrier, causing a loud sound (audible only to them) to erupt, startling them and sending them back where they came from. In order to be effective, the pet will also have to wear a receiver collar that will sense when the boundary has been crossed. This is particularly useful for families that want to create a safe kids-only play space, or to keep dogs out of bedroom and bathrooms, or the cat off the kitchen counters.

Yard Barriers: Similar to the indoor barrier devices, these ultrasonic fences create a boundary around the perimeter of a backyard. The wireless products can line yard edges on larger properties, signaling up to 35 feet away. Teaming with an electric collar worn by the pet, the yard barrier will emit an uncomfortable sound when the dog approaches the limit, causing him to avoid any plants, bushes, or corners you prefer to keep puppy-free. This is a practical tool for expansive properties that do not have a physical fence. Pet owners can line the area they choose with the ultrasonic yard barriers, to ensure that the dog stays safely within the limits.

Note: For those who are plagued by raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, rodents or other unwanted guests, there are also ultrasonic pet-repellent yard barriers. These units also project sound waves that are inaudible to humans which will successfully scare pests away from your lawn.
