All dogs are loveable, but not every pup was created equal in the looks department. Some have lopsided features, dropping skin, shabby coats, or just oddly proportioned bodies. Look at some of the breeds we have classified as the ugliest kinds of canines money can buy!
Puli: Starting with the lowest offence, one would be hard-press to describe this breed as hideously ugly. But the difficulty here is trying to guess what the dog would look like if he wasn’t buried under a pile of fur! Both the Puli and his cousin the Komondor are covered from head to toe in a long mat of dread locks, where only their nose and mouths are (barely) visible. If these pups were sleeping next to an upright stick, they could almost certainly be mistaken for a mop!
Peruvian Inca Orchid Dog: While some of these dogs can have a sleek build, the majority of the Peruvian Inca Orchid Dogs look ghastly and neglected. Most dogs of this breed look like burn victims, or pups that have survived some sort of trauma. They sport spikey scruffs of hair on their head and face, while the rest of their bodies are hairless. The metallic grayish brown and spots of their skin makes the appearance of these diseased-looking dogs very disconcerting. Mexican hairless (or Xoloitzcuintli) is very similar to their skin-clad cousins the Peruvian Inca Orchid Dog, except that the Mexican variety tends to have stockier muscles and a thicker build. Because of their athletic appearance, the Mexican hairless seems healthier and more appealing than their Peruvian counterparts, but both of these breeds are generally considered ugly.

Chinese Crested: It is no surprise that dogs consumed by fur, or those jarringly lacking it have both made the “ugliest” list. However, the Chinese crested breed can’t seem to pick a side. Cresteds are born with either copious amounts of hair, or no hair at all –oftentimes having both variations in the same litter! The most common look resembles prima donna doll, with furry white boots and ponytail-like hair clumps on their heads; the Chinese Crested can be groomed to look like she came with a pink metallic collar from Toys R Us. The “powderpuff” variety of this breed is subtly more aesthetically appealing, while the fully hairless ones look mostly like shriveled rats. And when mixed with other breeds, Cresteds decidedly seem like the result of a failed science experiment involving explosives.
Chinese Crested Dog
Borzoi: The narrow rat-like face, accentuates how close this dog’s eyes are together. The nimble, lithe bodies seem to confusingly sport long-hair, while in other areas the coat are shorter, and some patches even look crimped or permed. Though the come in many colors, the white-fur Borzois have such boney bodies and uneven fur lengths, it makes these dogs look like the shadowy ghosts of canines past.

Neopolitan Mastiff: These sturdy dogs might start off in life as charming wrinkly little pups, but as they grow the disproportionate features seem almost eerie. Neopolitan Mastiffs can grow to almost 170 pounds, and their long wrinkles can sag so heavily that they have a haunting, sad demeanor. In some cases the skin pulls so low that the eyes themselves are no longer exposed, adding to the general creepiness of this breed’s appearance. You wouldn’t want this silent stalker following you at night!
Neapolitan Mastiff
English Bull Terrier and the Bedlington Terrier both have similar strange defects. The English Bull Terrier has an abnormally long schnoz and beady little eyes, while the large wooly Bedlington Terrier grows a thick mess of fur on this nose and forehead, giving him the same look. Puppy-dog-eyes are some of the most endearing features, and it is the appearance of eyes that are minimized in both of these breeds. Though both the Bedlington Terrier and the English Bull Terrier may be perfect by their own specific breed standards, one feature strongly overpowers the others, causing an unsightly result.

Other ugly breeds: Afghan hound (who also is the least intelligent), Irish Wolf hounds are some of the biggest breeds but their hairy gray coat and alarming size also makes them less appealing than most. Some feel that the Japanese Chin, Pekingese, Brussels Griffon and Shih Tzus are all on the same level of smash-faced unattractiveness.
