As of July 10th, the I and Love and You pet food company located in Boulder, Colorado has recalled Cow-Boom! Strips of Beef Gullet dog treats. Over 1,299 cases of the product were recalled due to a possible Salmonella contamination. Though there have been no reports of human contamination by the Cow-Boom! Product, the 2 ounce bags which were labeled “BEST BY 07-2016” and should be disposed of immediately.

UPDATE: As of July 14th, this recall notice has been updated to include the Cow-Boom! Strips of Beef Gullet products packaged into 2.0 oz bags, with identification numbers ending in 4T1 or 5T1. Products labeled with a “BEST BY 07-2017”  may also be contaminated.

Salmonella can cause toxic reactions in both humans and animals, resulting in severe health issues. Symptoms include: vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, bloody stool, body cramping, and fever. In extreme cases, humans might also develop arthritis, arterial infections, and urinary tract infections, among other symptoms. Animals with salmonella infections suffer from decreased appetites, fever, abdominal pain, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea. If there is any concern that your pet has come in contact with the bacteria, notify your vet at once
